How to Add Holidays to Your Outlook Calendar, and Remove Them

Your Outlook calendar shows no public holidays, or only some of them. Outlook can add a country’s holidays for you, but the button sits in a different place in each version, and one version can’t do it at all. Microsoft’s holiday data also has a known gap, covered below.

In short: in Outlook on the web, Outlook.com and new Outlook for Windows, open the calendar, select Add calendar, choose Holidays, and tick each country you want. In classic Outlook for Windows, go to File > Options > Calendar, select Add Holidays, tick the countries and select OK. Outlook for Mac can’t add holidays. To remove them, right-click the holiday calendar and select Remove (web, new Outlook), or delete the events in the Holidays category from List view (classic). As of November 2026, Microsoft lists a known issue in which some countries’ holiday calendars are missing dates later in 2026 or in 2027.

Which Outlook Can Add Holidays to the Calendar

The steps below follow Microsoft’s article Add holidays to your calendar in Outlook.

Outlook Add holidays How they arrive
Outlook on the web (work or school) Yes: Add calendar > Holidays A holiday calendar you subscribe to, updated automatically
Outlook.com (personal) Yes: Add calendar > Holidays A holiday calendar in your My calendars list
New Outlook for Windows Yes: Add Calendar > Holidays Microsoft says Outlook copies the holidays into your calendar
Classic Outlook for Windows Yes: File > Options > Calendar > Add Holidays Events copied into your own calendar, years 2016 to 2026 only
Outlook for Mac No Not supported, per Microsoft
Outlook for iPhone and Android Not documented by Microsoft Try adding them on the web with the same account

How to Add Holidays in Outlook on the Web and Outlook.com

A personal Microsoft account uses Outlook.com. A work or school account uses Outlook on the web. The steps are the same.

  1. Open Calendar.
  2. In the left pane, select Add calendar.
  3. Select Holidays. The panel reads “Add major international holidays and dates to your calendar”.
  4. Type a country in the Filter box, or scroll the list.
  5. Tick the box for each country you want.

Microsoft’s Add a calendar article says the holiday calendar is added to your My calendars list. Its main holidays article adds that with a Microsoft 365 work or school account, this is a subscription that updates automatically when holidays are added or changed. Microsoft doesn’t say whether a personal Outlook.com account gets the same updates.

How to Add Holidays in New Outlook for Windows

  1. Open the calendar.
  2. In the pane below the calendar grid, select Add Calendar.
  3. Select Holidays.
  4. Choose one or more countries.

Microsoft says new Outlook then copies those holidays into your calendar. If you use the same account in Outlook on the web, check there first, so you don’t add the same country twice.

How to Add Holidays in Classic Outlook

  1. Select File > Options > Calendar.
  2. Under Calendar options, select Add Holidays.
  3. In the Add Holidays to Calendar box, tick each country you want.
  4. Select OK.

A country you added before already has its box ticked. If you select OK with it ticked, Outlook adds its holidays a second time. Untick it first, or remove the old ones and add them again.

Classic Outlook’s built-in holiday data, in Outlook for Microsoft 365, Outlook 2019 and Outlook 2016, covers the years 2016 to 2026 only, so it adds nothing for 2027. If your holidays stop before 2026, Microsoft says to delete the existing holidays, install the latest Office updates, and add them again.

Can You Add Holidays in Outlook for Mac?

No. Microsoft’s page Can I add holidays to calendars in Outlook for Mac says Outlook for Mac “does not currently support” it. That applies to Outlook for Microsoft 365 for Mac, Outlook 2024 and Outlook 2021 for Mac. Microsoft offers no workaround there, only the Feedback Portal.

Holidays on iPhone and Android

Microsoft’s holiday articles give no steps for the Outlook app on iPhone or Android. Add the holidays in Outlook on the web or Outlook.com, signed in with the account you use on your phone, then look for the holiday calendar in the app’s calendar list.

How to Remove Holidays From Your Outlook Calendar

Outlook on the web, Outlook.com and new Outlook:

  1. In the left pane, right-click the holiday calendar.
  2. Select Remove, then Remove again to confirm.

Classic Outlook: the holidays are ordinary events in your own calendar, so you delete them.

  1. In the calendar, select View > Change View > List.
  2. In the Arrangement group, select Categories.
  3. Scroll to the Holidays category.
  4. Select the holidays you want to remove, then select Home > Delete.
  5. Return to the normal view with View > Change View > Calendar.

Microsoft’s article Apply the latest Japanese holidays in Outlook 2016 calls the category Holiday, so look for either spelling.

Common Problems With Holidays in Outlook

Holidays Missing in 2026 and 2027: A Known Issue

If your country’s holidays stop partway through 2026 or are missing in 2027, this is a known issue. Microsoft’s known-issue page Public Holiday Calendars Missing Dates After June 2026 in Outlook says holiday calendars stop after a date in 2026, show 2026 but not 2027, or have single holidays missing or on the wrong date. It affects Outlook on the web, new Outlook and classic Outlook.

Microsoft’s workaround is to take holiday dates from another source: a calendar your organization maintains, a third-party calendar you subscribe to, or an official government or regional calendar. It adds that deleting the holiday data and adding it again has worked for some individual users. See add holidays from another source below.

Add Holidays From Another Source

If a public holiday calendar or your organization publishes an internet calendar address, you can subscribe to it in Outlook on the web or Outlook.com, following Microsoft’s import or subscribe article:

  1. In the calendar’s left pane, select Add calendar.
  2. Select Subscribe from web.
  3. Enter the calendar’s address and select Import.

A subscribed calendar updates by itself, though Microsoft says changes can take more than 24 hours to show. An .ics file you upload instead is a snapshot and never updates. Microsoft’s known-issue page notes that these sources aren’t managed by Microsoft, so check the dates before you rely on them.

How to Add Company Holidays Yourself

For a few days, create an all-day event for each one, following Microsoft’s all-day event article:

For a whole team, ask IT whether your organization keeps a shared holiday calendar. That is the first alternative Microsoft names for the 2027 gap. To share one you made, see how to share a calendar in Outlook.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Japan in Outlook’s holiday list?
Yes. Classic Outlook’s Add Holidays box includes Japan, and Microsoft’s known-issue page covers Japanese holiday calendars in Outlook on the web and new Outlook. As of November 2026, Microsoft lists Japanese holidays as missing for the rest of 2026 and all of 2027. Use another source or add the missing days yourself until it is fixed.

Why doesn’t my Outlook calendar show 2027 holidays?
Two reasons. Classic Outlook’s built-in holiday data covers 2016 to 2026 only. And Microsoft lists a known issue, as of November 2026, in which holiday calendars in Outlook on the web, new Outlook and classic Outlook are missing dates later in 2026 or in 2027 for many countries. Microsoft’s workaround is a holiday calendar from another source.

How do I remove duplicate holidays in Outlook?
In classic Outlook, select View > Change View > List, choose Categories in the Arrangement group, select the extra events in the Holidays category, and select Home > Delete. On the web and in new Outlook, right-click the holiday calendar and select Remove. Duplicates usually come from adding a country twice, or in both Outlook for Windows and Outlook on the web.

Can I add holidays to Outlook for Mac?
No. Microsoft says Outlook for Mac does not currently support adding holidays to calendars, and it offers no workaround beyond sending feedback.

Do Outlook holidays update automatically?
With a Microsoft 365 work or school account, a holiday calendar added in Outlook on the web is a subscription that updates automatically. Classic Outlook copies fixed events into your calendar, which never update; to refresh them you delete and add them again. Microsoft doesn’t say whether personal Outlook.com holiday calendars update.
