Install Folder Suggest
For individuals — install yourself
Step 1 — Download the manifest file
manifest.xml
Folder Suggest add-in manifest
↓ Download
Step 2 — Add it to Outlook
Outlook on the web, New Outlook for Windows, or Mac
- Sign in to Outlook on the web (outlook.live.com or outlook.office.com)
- Click the Settings gear (top right) → View all Outlook settings
- Go to Mail → Add-ins
- Under My add-ins, click + Add → Add from File
- Select the
manifest.xmlyou downloaded and click Install - A Suggest Folder button will appear in your toolbar when you open an email
Mac users: install using the web steps above — the add-in syncs automatically to your Mac desktop app. Close and reopen Outlook if the button doesn't appear within a minute.
You may see a security notice saying the add-in "is not from Microsoft AppSource." This is expected — click Install (or OK) to continue. No email data is sent to external servers.
Don't see the "Add from File" option? Your organisation's IT policy may have disabled individual add-in installs. Ask your IT admin to deploy it using the instructions below — it takes about 5 minutes and the button will appear automatically for you.
Classic Outlook for Windows (traditional ribbon app)
- Go to the Home tab and click Get Add-ins (or Store on older versions)
- Click My Add-ins at the top of the panel
- Scroll to Custom Add-ins at the bottom → + Add a custom add-in → Add from File
- Select the
manifest.xmlyou downloaded and click Install - The Suggest Folder button appears in the ribbon on the Home tab
Already installed via Outlook on the web? The add-in syncs automatically to desktop Outlook — no separate installation needed.
For IT admins — deploy to your whole organisation
If you manage Microsoft 365, you can deploy Folder Suggest to all users (or specific groups) in a few clicks. No AppSource listing required.
Microsoft 365 Admin Center
- Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center
- Go to Settings → Integrated Apps → Upload custom apps
- Select Office Add-in as the app type
- Choose one of:
- Upload manifest file — use the download button above to get the file
- Provide link to manifest — paste this URL:
https://app.foldersuggest.com/manifest.xml
- Under Assign users, choose Entire organisation, specific security groups, or specific users
- Click Deploy
Once deployed, users don't need to do anything. The Suggest Folder button appears automatically in their Outlook ribbon — no installation steps on their end.
What permissions does it request?
Folder Suggest requests two Microsoft Graph permissions:
- Mail.Read — to read the email you have open and your folder names
- Mail.ReadWrite — to move emails to the selected folder
All AI processing happens entirely on the user's device. No email content is transmitted to external servers. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
Troubleshooting
If you run into issues, see the Troubleshooting section on the Support page, or email [email protected].
- Button doesn't appear after install — close and reopen Outlook; check the Home tab in the ribbon
- "This add-in could not be installed" — make sure your browser isn't blocking
app.foldersuggest.com; try a different browser - Add-in disappears after a few days — reinstall it, or ask your admin to deploy it centrally via the Admin Center so it persists automatically
- Using Outlook on iOS or Android? Mobile Outlook does not support add-ins — install via Outlook on the web or desktop instead
